UK. Hello, from CNN, I'm Jo Beck with the five things you need to know for Tuesday

January 30th. The question is no longer if but now when and most importantly how. President Joe Biden said the US

would retaliate after a drone attack in Jordan killed and wounded service members

over the weekend. But the scale of the US response could have

major implications for the Middle East and officials tell CNN there are fears of

sparking a regional war. Iran-backed militants in Iraq and Syria have targeted U.S. military facilities more than 160 times

since October 17th, prompting the U.S. to strike some of their weapons depots and kill a militia leader in Iraq.

Now several Republican lawmakers are calling for a direct hit inside Iran,

but the White House says that's not very likely.

Iran has also tried to distance itself from these attacks saying that the resistance

group, as it calls them, don't answer to Tehran and in this specific case it seems the

US may actually agree officials have said that there is no direct evidence at

this stage to suggest that Iran directed this attack on the US base in Jordan, that it wanted to see an

escalation.
