Hello from CNN, I'm Jo Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, December 4th.

Israel's military is now carrying out ground operations across the whole of Gaza.

Forces told civilians to leave large areas of the strip,

including a number of neighborhoods in the south.

And Israeli forces say they've hit 200 targets in the strip that they claim were part of Hamas infrastructure.

But there are concerns that people in Gaza don't have anywhere else to go and the UN estimates

that up to 1.8 million people, or nearly 80% of the population, are already internally displaced.

This new phase of Israel's attacks comes after a truce with Hamas expired on Friday.

Speaking to NBC News, White House official John Kirby says that happened because of issues

on more hostages being released.

What hasn't stopped is our own involvement trying to get those back on track and trying to discuss

with those partners and all those interloculars see if we can't get it back in place.

Elsewhere, this morning at the UN, a special session will address sexual violence

used in the October 7th Hamas attack.

As the UN's climate conference continues in Dubai, the events president continues to face criticism.

In the run up to COP28, Oil Company CEO Sultan Aljaba claimed there was quote no science that phasing out fossil fuels is

necessary to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

That's the target set by climate scientists, many of whom are alarmed by Aljaba's comments, given that fossil fuels are the main driver of the climate crisis.

He made them during the She Changes Climate Panel events on November 21st,

which came to light on Sunday in a story published by The Guardian and in video that CNN has reviewed.

The COP28 team says the story is quote,

just another attempt to undermine the presidency's agenda and pointed to successes at the summit.
