Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Monday, October 9th.

The Israeli governments has officially declared war on Hamas.

All of the places which Hamas is deployed, hiding and operating it.

That wicked city.

We will turn it into an island of ruins.

That was Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, giving a TV address warning people in Gaza,

and fighting is now in its third day.

This comes after Hamas fighters breached the border from Gaza in an unprecedented, coordinated surprise attack,

killing hundreds of Israelis and taking hostages.

Officials are saying more than 700 people have been killed in Israel, including at least 260 festival goers

who were attacked by militants on Saturday morning. A video on social media shows hundreds

fleeing their cars, running across an empty field with

gunshots echoing in the background.

Militants took this woman's daughter from the festival and video shows her on the back of a pickup truck

being driven in Gaza. I still have hope I hope that she's still alive somewhere

we don't have anything else to hope for so I try to believe.

In response, Israel has been pounding Gaza with airstrikes,

and the Palestinian Health Ministry says more than 490 people have been killed there, with medical care
