Iran's president, Ebrahim Rhese, has been killed in a helicopter crash.

The country's government confirmed the 63-year-old leader was on board the aircraft when it went down, along with the foreign minister and seven other people.

There were no survivors.

We've asked CNN's Paula Hancock's for the latest.

Joe, the helicopter of President Raisei crashed in Iran's remote northwestern region

Sunday.

The wreckage was found on the side of a steep mountain.

Weather conditions were bad at the time of the crash, low clouds and fog were reducing visibility.

The bodies of the President, Foreign Minister and seven others have been transported to the closest city of Tabrice.

Iranian officials have been sending condolences

but also stressing that there will be no disruption to the running of the country.

The crash does come at a time when tensions in the region are already high.
