Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck with the five things you need to know for Thursday

August 1st. Israel says it killed Hamas's military chief Mohammed Dafe in

Gaza but still hasn't confirmed or denied its involvement

in the assassination of the militant group's political leader.

The killing of Dafe happened back on July 13th, but an Israeli military official told

CNN they received new intelligence in recent hours that led them to confirm it.

The news comes as the world watches and waits to see what happens in the aftermath of the assassination of Hamas's political leader, Ishmael Hanayor in Iran earlier this week.

Thousands of people have gathered in the country's capital for

his memorial service as CNN Salma Abdulaziz describes. You can see the streets

filled with crowds, the coffin of Isma Al- Haniya was being carried through those crowds.

There will be a huge funeral prayer that will take place led by the Supreme Leader himself of Iran and

then that coffin, that body of Isma

Hanea will go on to Qatar tomorrow where he will be buried and there's a clear

message in the pictures that you are sending here that Iran wants the world to hear which is one of unity against what they

accuse our actions from Israel. Vice President Carmelah Harris has responded to

former President Donald Trump's comments about her racial heritage.

And it was the same old show, the divisiveness and the disrespect.

Trump made the comments yesterday at the National Association of Black Journalists,

claiming Harris only recently started to identify herself as black.

She was always of Indian heritage and she was only promoting Indian

heritage. I didn't know she was black until a number of years ago when she

happened to turn black and now she wants to be known as black. But a CNN fact checker found that Harris has referred to her black identity for decades.
