From CNN, I'm Fez Jamil with the five things you need to know for Monday, October 16th.

Aid workers say Gaza is being, quote, strangled by Israel's week-long siege and bombardment by airstrikes and concerns are

growing that if the conflict escalates any further other groups or countries could

start getting involved. Israel's military says half a million people have fled to southern Gaza

after it ordered a mass evacuation last week.

Israeli forces have vowed to wipe out Hamas after the terror group launched a brutal and deadly

attack that killed 1400 people. Since that attack Israel's military has

relentlessly pounded Gaza with airstrikes killing more than 2,600 people there

while cutting off much needed supplies.

And diplomatic efforts to establish a humanitarian corridor are ramping up

before the strip's roughly 2 million people completely run out of clean

drinking water, food, fuel, and medicine.

Israeli forces have been signaling they're preparing for a ground invasion of Gaza, but an Israeli official says they have no plans

to occupy the strip.

That's something President Joe Biden warned against on CBS's 60 minutes.

I think it would be a big mistake. What happened in Gaza in my view is Hamas and the extreme

elements of Hamas don't represent all the Palestinian people. Meanwhile some of the violence in the Middle East may be spilling into the U.S.

A Chicago area landlord has been charged with murder and hate crimes, among other charges,

after authorities say he stabbed a six-year-old boy

to death and seriously wounded his mother.

Investigators determined the victims were targeted for being Muslim and because of the ongoing conflict involving Hamas in Israel.

Sheriff's Office says the boy died after being stabbed 26 times,
