Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Friday, September 29th.

Federal workers are once again waking up to uncertainty about their futures, and lawmakers don't appear to be any closer to avoiding

a government shutdown. Funding is set to run out tomorrow night. If that happens, millions will

lose their pay, and some essential workers like border guards will have to work unpaid.

It could also further delay work authorizations for migrants, lead to delays at airports, impact small businesses, and mean most national parks will have to close.

And on top of all of that, the White House has warned about risks to national security and

disaster relief work.

So today, Washington is working against the clock to try to stop

that shutdown from happening. The House passed several spending bills late last night,

but the measures wouldn't stop a shutdown and have no hope of passing in the Senate.

And later the House is expected to vote on a stopgap funding bill put forward by Speaker Kevin McCarthy,

but so far he's struggled to get the hardline members of his party on board.

McCarthy claims he still has time though, even if that bill fails.

Former President Donald Trump is not going to try to move his Georgia election subversion case to federal court.

That's according to his lawyer's court filings, and comes as a bit of a surprise,

as it was thought he'd want to move the case in a bid to invoke immunity protections for federal

officials. CNN's Jessica Schneider has more. This is what they're saying in the

court filing. They're saying President Trump now notifies the court that he will not be seeking to remove

his case to federal court.

This decision is based on his well-founded confidence that this honorable court intends to fully

and completely protect his constitutional right to a fair trial and

guarantee him due process of law throughout the prosecution of this case in the
