From CNN, I'm Fez Jamil with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, September 10th.

We're now just hours away from the first and only scheduled debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald

Trump.

CNN's David Rind is in Philadelphia where tonight's debate is taking place.

So Fez, I think it's worth noting that these two have never

interacted with each other face to face, but they will be side by side tonight at

the National Constitution Center starting at 9 Eastern. We're getting a sense of

how each candidate might approach the night.

Trump campaign spokesperson Jason Miller says the former president will try to tie Harris to

Biden administration policies. You can't talk about turning the page when you're the one who created our

current nightmare. On the other side Michigan Democratic state senator

Mallory McMaro is urging undecided voters in her key swing state to listen for solutions from Harris.

Two things can be true once. We can have made a lot of progress and still have more work to do.

Just a reminder of the rules, there will be no studio audience and microphones

will be muted when it's the others turn to speak.

Speaker Mike Johnson is already facing opposition to his government funding plan from fellow Republicans.

At least six GOP members say they're against Johnson tying the six-month funding resolution

to a controversial bill that bars non-citizens from

voting in U.S. elections.

That's already enough opposition to sink it with Democratic members against it as well.

Other Republicans say Johnson will ultimately have to abandon his initial proposal to keep the government open

and instead put a clean extension of government funding on the floor, as this Congress has previously done to avert shutdowns.
