Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck. With the five things you need to know for Wednesday, November 15th.

President Joe Biden will be sitting down with China's leader, she Jin Ping today, and U.S. officials are managing expectations in the run-up to the summit.

It's going to be a closely watched high stakes meeting in the San Francisco Bay Area,

but officials say they're not expecting a long list of outcomes or even a joint statement.

What Biden does want to walk away with is steadier relations between the two countries.

You get back on a normal course of corresponding, being able to pick up a phone and talk to one another

is a crisis.

As Biden said, the main goal here is restoring channels of communication, specifically

through the military, to avoid the kind of miscommunication that could lead to an all-out conflict.

CNN's Mark Stewart has more on what to expect today.

Let's start with the military. This could be an opportunity for she to emphasize his view that Taiwan is theirs.

He could also bring up concerns about American surveillance flights near the Taiwan Strait

and the South China Sea.

Expect President Xi to emphasize ways for cooperation,

especially on trade where both nations see benefits

on both sides of the Pacific. A local journalist says Israeli forces are inside the grounds of Gaza's biggest hospital.

He tells CNN there's violent gunfire inside the al-Shifa hospital as soldiers are searching buildings and interrogating young men.
