I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome you to just five minutes with me, which I trust and pray will be five minutes well spent.

Krista Gilbert is rounding out our guest host for this month, and she's a fantastic one to end on because she's a podcaster herself.

I actually met her when I went

on her show with co-host Alexander Kirkendahl, the Open Door Sisterhood, great show, and

we've been friends ever since. Krista loves her family. She's passionate about reclaiming the

home, which is the title of just one of the books she's written. What a great message, right?

She's coming on today to talk about some of the principles in one of the books she's contributed

to with author Carol Kirkendahl, Give Them Wings, a book I actually endorsed, and I'm so looking

forward to her wisdom she's going to share here. It's all yours, Krista. Take it away.

I remember sitting on the hearth of our fireplace.

My arms folded in exasperation.

I looked at my husband and declared, we're never going to be friends.

He looked at me, questioning my statement.

And so just to make my point, I said, never.

My daughter was upset with me again. I honestly can't even remember why, but it didn't matter why. The point was we seemed to be

constantly at odds, and it was hard for me to see past it, even though my husband told me someday

it would pay off and we would be best friends.

She was pushing me away at a time where I wanted to draw in close. I mean, didn't she

realize she'd be leaving in a couple of years and we wouldn't get this time back?

Didn't she even care about that? Well, the answer is no. At that moment in time, no, she did not care about that. The problem with teenagers is it the harder we push to make them want to do or be something, the more we push them away from that ideal and ultimately from us. I had always dreamed of being best friends

with my daughter, but the reality of our relationship at that time was getting in the way
