Here's a statement it took me a while to believe. Social media and healthy can go together.

Do you believe that? For a long time, I didn't. But I've come to believe that in fact

they can, and it has to do with whether we let social media boss us or we boss it. Stay with me,

and I'll tell you exactly what I mean.

Not long ago on my Instagram, I posted a meme that said this, you are the boss of your social media.

People really resonated with it because I think so many times we feel like social media owns us.

We are putty in its hands, right?

It's like we are all walking around obeying whatever it tells us to do.

And it's kind of

crazy if you think about how smart, capable, grown men and women, all of us sort of turn into

zombies staring into our phones these days and hotheads that react to post that make us

mad and teenagers that get sensitive about every little thing we see when we aren't included in something.

Amazing, really. And man, I'm not

painting a very pretty picture, I know, but I think it's an accurate one for a great majority of

folks. I had someone say to me once, you really hate social media, don't you? At least you talk like

you do. And I said this to them. Actually, I do hate it. I hate it because I love it so much. And that's really the

truth. I hate how it sucks me in. I hate how it takes away from my time from more important

things and how it's distracted me from things my family has maybe been trying to tell me at that

moment and how it's sometimes made me feel very discouraged and on a whole different scale, how it's

caused people to reconnect after years and start affairs online and how it's gotten people
