Hi, and welcome to the Five Word Prayers Daily, a five-day-a-week daily devotional where we share the

0:06.4

word, prayers, and our heart. I'm Lisa Whittle, and I welcome you to just five minutes with me,

0:11.4

which I trust and pray will be five minutes well spent. Well, we talked about how to find a mentor

0:16.3

yesterday, and today I want to talk to the other side, the mentors or wannabe mentors, about who we need to be as people, according to the Bible, what our main motto as a mentor should be, and what is the very best thing we can do to honor God in all of this. I really think there is one main thing, and it's actually quite easy. You ready to talk about it?

0:41.2

Okay. quite easy. You ready to talk about it? Titus 2 is probably the most famous chapter in the Bible about mentoring, and it has some

0:45.5

rich insight into what kind of people we need to be as mentors or leaders, counsel, that

0:50.8

pour into younger believers, a great resource for sure. But it's not the only passage that helps us know how to be a good example to other

0:58.0

believers and particularly younger ones.

1:00.0

The Bible is filled with Scripture that teaches us how to live in every single way,

1:04.0

from money to parenting, to marriage, to leading in the church, all of it.

1:09.0

So as mentors who invest in others, we are to be

1:12.0

seeking to live holy lives outlined by the Bible, and in turn teaching others how to live

1:17.5

holy lives. And even then, our practical daily lives fall under that umbrella, and we are

1:23.4

able to do them for the glory of God. So it's a teaching funnel, really, from the word to the

1:29.0

mentor to the mentee that pleases God. The mentor is a very important piece of that. And not only

1:35.2

does God want to use us to do that in our life, he takes that role very seriously. A mentor must be

1:41.2

worthy of that role, not by our perfection, goodness, because that's not possible,

1:46.7

but by our dedication to God, that we might inspire a younger believer.

1:51.9

The motto of every mentor should be this.

1:55.0

Follow me as I follow Christ.

1:57.8

If you follow the right kind of mentor, you really aren't following a human person.

2:01.6

You're simply behind them in the line of following Jesus Christ, and a mentor worth their salt will always remind you of that.
