In this episode of the Bare Performance Podcast, Nick Bare talks about his personal journey to running a sub 3-hour marathon. Nick's first marathon was the Austin, Texas Marathon in 2018, shortly after transitioning out of the US Army as an Infantry Officer. His first marathon was just short of 4 hours and after completing a few more marathons and an Ironman Triathlon he decided to set the goal of running a sub 3-hour marathon.

This one has been a long one and it's been a long time coming.

It is now April 2nd, 2021 that I am recording this episode, but this is all about the sub

three hour marathon that happened on January 30th, 2021.

So there was a few weeks back and I have had a lot of time to digest the race and the

journey that it was together.

And I really just want to break down that in itself, the journey to set the goal and accomplish

a sub three hour marathon and what it took, what it felt like that day of my strategy

going into and everything about it.

This one was not easy.

This one was for one it wasn't an easy journey or an easy goal, but just making it happen

during everything with COVID-19, races being canceled, just getting to this point, January

30th was a journey itself outside of all the training.

So I kind of want to kick it off with talking about my running background in terms of

marathons and then talking about what I learned training for the sub three hour goal, setting

up our own race, which we had to do because a lot of races were being canceled.

And then race day itself and accomplishing that goal.

So my final time on January 30th was two hours, 56 minutes and 27 seconds.

Now let's take that back to my first marathon, which was the Austin marathon in 2018.

And what's funny is I transitioned out of the military in 2017.
