One night in 2003, a sex worker went back to a client's hotel room.

The whole time she had no idea there was a dead body hidden in one of the wardrobes.

He'd just killed another sex worker before meeting her, and her body would end up abandoned in a shopping cart on the other side of town four days later. Today we're talking about the tragic murder of Shelby Tracy Tom.

But before we get into the case, I just want to give my usual disclaimer that I'm in absolutely no disrespect to anyone that I talk about in this video.

Everything in this video is publicly available information that myself and my research team have

found online and just compiled into this video.

Today we're going to cover some especially sensitive topics including transphobia and hate

crimes, this case is a hate crime, and sexual assault.

And just one more thing, because I feel like this is very important to say in the beginning,

the perpetrator of this crime has since changed their gender identity in recent years,

or we believe that they have. At the time of the case, they identified as a man and used he-him

pronouns, but recent court documents refer to the killer using she-her.

So for this video, while I'm describing the perpetrator and the murder, them at the time of the murder,

I will be using he-him pronouns, especially because I think in this case, in particular, gender identity and gender dysphoria really plays into it and maybe plays into the motive.

So I think it's important to say that he identified as a man, he, him at the time and no longer does.

So when we get to that point in the case, of course, I will start using she her pronouns.

But I think it's important to remember how this person identified at the time of the crime.

I just wanted to make you all aware of that before we got stuck into the case because I think, like I say, it could well link in to the case.
