talk to you guys a little bit today about the topic that I deliver on on the Academy and that's alcohol.

Now this was spurred on by a question that was asked in the Ask Ben Facebook group that we

manage and the question was basically where do the calories come from in beer?

So the person that asked this question

had done a quick Google and found that

there are around 17 grams of carbohydrates in a pint,

which they mathed out to about 70 calories

worth of carbohydrates in a pint at 4 calories per gram.

But then you look at the, and you see that an average pint of beer usually has about 200 calories.

So where are those calories come from? They're not coming from fat and they're certainly not coming from protein.

And the answer is the calories in alcoholic drinks come from the alcohol itself.

So alcohol can be considered to be the fourth macro nutrient. It contains about 7 calories per gram and each unit of

alcohol which is 10 millililators weighs 8 grams just because it's not particularly dense.

And what that means is that each unit of alcohol at 8 grams at 7 calories per gram gives you 54 calories.

So something that contains 2 units of alcohol is going to contain 108 calories of alcohol.

Now this pretty much fits into the calorie in calorie out equation exactly as you would expect it to. While there are
