Marshall here. Welcome back to the realignment. Hey, everyone. We'll go back to the show and the season premiere of the realignment.

Steve and I recorded this episode before Charlie Kirk was assassinated in Utah yesterday, so we obviously didn't have the chance to comment or offer anything.

So I just want to start off by saying that I'm praying for Charlie's family, that this

was horrible, this was a tragedy.

And as folks who listen to the show know I really think through moments like this through

the lens of history.

So I just recently completed Brian Burroughs' days of rage, America's Radical Underground, the FBI, and the

forgotten age of revolutionary violence. The book is about the 1970s, towards the tail end of the

long 1960s, where America saw just the total height of political violence on all sort of levels across America.

I think as we're thinking through a bunch of comments that people made in the wake of the

assassination things folks said about Luigi's assassination of the CEO and just the general

desirability of political violence.

I think this book just serves

as the ultimate rejoinder to those ideas and the very clear fact that no matter how edgy

anyone on the left writer center feels, political violence leads to disaster. It leads nowhere. It

doesn't build anything. It doesn't accelerate anything. So we'll have more thoughts to come on this moving

forward, but I just really want to shout out Brian Burroughs book and recommend that everyone

Steve and I unpacked the Abundance Conference that we hosted last week, my new position at the Niskanen Center and

all of those things. Once again, real depressing, honestly speaking to a lot of my friends in D.C.,

way to kick off the conversation. But I think it's just important that we all think really

hard about this and not let social media and all the horrible incentives
