women for women. It's a big organization but that's the beginning it was just me.

Everybody could do that. If I could do that, anybody could do. There was nothing special,

nothing about my circumstances or about me. Except I believed.

This is the Rachel Hollis podcast. I would love to start with your story which I know is just full but I feel like to

understand the work you do today we have to go back to kind of where that work

started so will you take us on that journey?

Mm-hmm. My story starts in Baghdad, Iraq, or Baghdad, Iraq, as we say it.

When I tell my story, usually I tell it by three major impacts that had impacts on my life,

but I want to start with one thing, which is I actually grew up in a loving family.

A very loving family. I felt loved and I think that's the biggest blessing that a parent can ever give a child no matter what life throws the child afterwards because life

threw me a few things afterwards but the foundation was love.

That was a big one.

But then soon, when I was 10 years old,

three things happen in my life.

One is my country was in a war with Iran and at a very young age I realized the meaning of war because

they were like missiles and bombs and planes and all of that and I was just a child and I remember one time

living through that but also watching the news showing and discussing the war

only from a man's perspective.
