Summary

🔥 Leeds University is at the center of a shocking free speech scandal. Connie Shaw, a former Leeds Student Radio presenter, was accused of "bringing the station into disrepute" simply for interviewing Graham Linehan on her podcast. What followed was a Kafkaesque nightmare of censorship, re-education demands, and social ostracism that feels more like Stalinist Russia than a modern British university. From “gender expression funds” for binders and tuckers, to professors who police language and beliefs, this story exposes the authoritarian side of higher education that the mainstream media won’t touch. We also cover the chilling consequences of speaking out — from friends being told not to be seen with her, to the University citing her podcast as evidence against her. Toby Young, the Free Speech Union, and even Connie’s own lawyer have compared her case to life under totalitarian regimes. This is more than one student’s story. It’s about whether free speech has any place left in British universities, and what happens when someone refuses to conform to the new orthodoxy. 👉 Watch to the end for Connie’s future plans, her surprising inspirations, and her message to anyone worried about censorship, cancel culture, and academic freedom. #FreeSpeech #CancelCulture #LeedsUniversity  Join the 30k heretics on my mailing list: https://andrewgoldheretics.com  Check out my new documentary channel: https://youtube.com/@andrewgoldinvestigates  Andrew on X: https://twitter.com/andrewgold_ok   Insta: https://www.instagram.com/andrewgold_ok Heretics YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@andrewgoldheretics Chapters: 0:00 Connie Shaw Highlights 1:24 Connie’s Graham Linehan Interview 4:24 Gender Madness on Campus 6:24 Kafkaesque Madness 8:24 The Most Shocking Question 11:24 Connie’s Trans Professor of FEMINISM! 15:54 He Brought Up Kathleen Stock 19:24 Found GUILTY - This Was Suspicious 23:24 The Five Allegations Against Connie 25:24 The Graham Linehan Podcast 28:54 Does This Make Connie A Horrible Person? 30:24 Will Connie Take Legal Action? 33:24 Toby Young Wrote This Letter 37:24 Lawyer Admitted This Was Stalinist Russia 40:14 Friends Deserted Connie 42:24 The Free Speech Union Shouldn’t Exist 45:24 Leeds University On The Back Foot! 48:24 Free Speech & Why Connie is Gratefu 51:24 Connie’s Future Career & Emily Maitlis 53:09 The UK’s Shocking Free Speech Ranking 54:24 The History of Semites & Islamophobia 56:54 The Grooming Gangs…is Islamophobic? 59:09 A Heretic Connie Shaw Admires 1:01:09 Christopher Hitchens Said Women Aren’t Funny Learn more about your ad choices. We made a documentary a few months ago with you in Leeds, which people should watch,

0:03.2

and it's brilliant, and you were brilliant in it. Tell me what made you, and it's a big story

0:07.3

here, the most talked about person on campus. Well, I have to say, if I had been told a year

0:14.1

ago that I'd be sat here right now, I don't know what I would have, I mean, obviously I wouldn't

0:18.4

have believed anyone. But yeah, if I hadn't found heretics, I really don't think I would have, I mean, obviously I wouldn't have believed anyone. But yeah, if I hadn't

0:21.4

found heretics, I really don't think I would have been thinking about the things I think about now. You didn't tell me that. Was that, you was, does I know, I don't think I mentioned it in the documentary. I should have. After this, it's like, I remember, I think, I remember you saying, you didn't say that's like yeah I know I should have but genuinely um you ask ask my family I was absolutely

0:39.6

obsessed sending people links,

0:40.9

being like, I can't believe no one's talking about this.

0:44.6

But basically, I peaked as a turf, as turf, say, when did you peak?

0:48.4

Which is when you realise how awful trans ideology is.

0:53.0

And that happened last summer. So I was sort of in the process of that this time last is. And that happened last summer.

0:56.7

So I was sort of in the process of that this time last year.

0:59.5

And then when I went back to university,

1:01.4

I decided I wanted to start my own podcast,

1:04.1

genuinely inspired by this sort of thing.

1:07.4

And at the same time,

1:10.6

I was going to be starting my committee role at lead student radio and I was going

1:12.2

to be the daytime editor which meant I ever saw like talk shows. But I purposely made my podcast

1:17.9

separate from LSR platforms because I knew they wouldn't want me with my having the conversations

1:24.6

that I wanted to have. I know that they wouldn't have found comfortable, been comfortable with that. So I made sure to keep it all separate. And I've

1:31.2

told this story before many times, but there are lots of things I haven't been able to say up

1:38.4

until now because I'm graduating. And so that's what I'm very excited to finally be able to say because I've been waiting for this moment for a very long time. That's really exciting. God. And yes, I just remembered now that we first met actually at the Battle of Ideas before that, of course, and you were interviewing me. Was that for LSR or for your podcast? Yeah, so that's what was so ironic about it was that it was my interview with Graham that I also did on the same day that got me into trouble. Sorry, yeah, with Graham Linhant, that got me into trouble with LSR. But we were at the Battle of Ideas on a press pass as LSR. And they knew it was a free speech festival. They did a ticket. Part of the deal was that we did a ticket giveaway as the radio station and we got to go for free and interview people. But that's where I interviewed great.
