This is John Batchel, a conversation with colleague Conrad Black in Toronto,

about how the media and the papers and the television regarded Mr. Carney's meeting with Xi Jinping.

In fact, regarded Mr. Shijan Ping's presentation in Seoul, Korea, of trade between Canada and China, even between China and the United

States. Not hostile, not confrontational. Here's Conrad, a very different opinion than we see in

the United States where very distinguished pundits are arguing that the U.S. was at a disadvantage after those

meetings. Two countries, two points of view. More of this tonight. Yes, our impression here is

that Xi has gone out of his way to be conciliatory both to Canada and to the United States.

It appears that both President Trump and Mr. Carney had quite satisfactory meetings with him.

So I think, you know, there are a lot of people cautioning that you can't always trust what the Chinese say, but at least, and it's not for me to contradict that, but at least you, you know, you like to have these people speaking civilly and constructively to each other and not pounding the table and threatening each other.
