0:20.5	Maybe state for the record what's your expertise on coronavirus?
0:27.9	Well, I've been studying coronaviruses for 38 years.
0:32.3	So I work with mouse coronaviruses, human coronaviruses, and this new human coronavirus.
0:39.4	I'm a professor of microbiology and immunology and pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Iowa.
0:45.8	And why were you studying it 38 years ago?
0:48.5	Wasn't it just the common cold 38 years ago?
0:51.1	That's in humans.
0:52.0	But in mice, it actually caused a disease that resembled the human disease multiple sclerosis.
0:57.0	So I was interested in that.
0:58.5	And it turned out to be not just a mouse disease because what it was is the virus
1:04.1	caused an immunopathological disease.
1:05.9	You've got disease when the immune system started to respond to the virus.
1:10.2	And the same thing may be happening with this new coronavirus as well as with SARS and MERS.
1:15.7	So what is that?
1:17.3	What do you think is that?
1:18.5	So we'll start with this, but then I want to pull it back to where we are now.
1:22.2	But what could be happening with this coronavirus that's related to what you've seen earlier?
1:26.6	Well, if you always have disease when the immune response is clearing the virus,
