what was your first encounter with what we'd call a viral video?

I'm Katie Rich, and I'm realizing that truly I had no concept of viral videos until I started

college and was with people who lived in bigger cities and had better internet connections, I guess, and therefore would show me viral videos well before. This is several years before YouTube, to be clear. And I was trying to think of some to dig in from that period. And then I came across Yata, which is a made-up Japanese boy band, but I think we all thought it was real. And they were dancing around and, like, with like, fig leaf leaf taped their underwear and it's like a disco song and it's a lot of like green screen and then being like edited into stuff like very early 2000s video effects. And I watched that in like a Windows media player on my friend's desktop computer in a dorm room like under a lofted bunk bed? I think real early 2000s kids
