0:00.0 | I'm doing good. I kind of like it. My voice sounds even deeper like I'm in recovery mode, |
0:27.2 | which is really good when you've got to match the guests that you're about to announce who probably has like some of the best tones in the industry. I love to listen to his voice. So, you know, I'm just trying to keep up with him. |
0:36.8 | A true king. The rookie scouting portfolio at www.MattWalmanRSP.com has been pleasantly shocking readers since 2006 football guy senior staff writer lover of the saxophone slapper of the bass Matt Walman at Matt Walman on Twitter. |
0:50.5 | Matt, I mean, you know, us fancy guys like to pretend to know we're talking about football sometimes you actually can do both. There is no freaking debating it again. |
0:59.7 | Julie's fantastic stuff in the industry for 15 plus years. How's it going man? Thanks for coming on the show. |
1:05.2 | Ian Dwayne, thanks so much for having me. I really appreciate it. You know, big fans of what you guys do and it's an honor to be able to come on the show and talk about one of my favorite positions in football. So that should be a good time. |
1:18.1 | Yeah, when Ian and I were going through the list of guests for the different positions. You know, obviously, you know, we're going through receiver like his mad Harmon, you know, we get to run him back and we started talking. We're both like we got to get mad on like we just have to give mad on like to talk about these guys. |
1:33.1 | So, hey, we've got plenty here to get to lots of men event first. It's a main event. We're not holding back. We're not waiting. The guys give me the main event. |
1:42.1 | Yeah, yeah, it is the main event and especially like this year, I mean, it is every year, but like man, there are so many names right now, Matt and you know, you've seen him. We've talked about some of them off air like they're getting pushed up boards. It's crazy and a lot of them are young people are ready like they want to be ahead. |
1:58.1 | You know, the curve, we all want to do that. We're all trying to win our fantasy league. So we'll jump straight in. I don't think there's a better place to start. Then, you know, one Isaiah, Pacheco, round seven picks. We don't typically see, you know, fly this quickly up draft boards. I guess we could look back to Darwin Thompson. |
2:15.1 | You know, he was an undrafted free agent for the chief a few years ago and we saw something kind of similar to this, but you know, he's had a lot of a lot of camp height. And then in week one, like the chief's back it up. We see Clyde Edwards, a layer out there. And then the next thing we see is Isaiah Pacheco. So just wondering, you know, what your thoughts are in Pacheco, like he's basically moved in like around 12 range now and fantasy drafts like in sharper drafts at the FFPC. |
2:39.1 | But what are your thoughts on like what he can do? Does he actually do you think he has a chance to overtake C.H.? What do you think his role can be? Obviously, people are excited about the chief's offense. |
2:47.1 | Yeah, I think everyone's always excited about the chief's offense. And I think that there's a lot of comparisons that people make to Brian Westbrook. And let's just get something straight here. Brian Westbrook was a special player. |
2:58.1 | And when you look at Andy Reed's offenses before he came to Kansas City, you have to understand that Brian Westbrook was in a kit committee for most of his career with guys like do Staley and Corral Buckhalter, late round guys or mid round guys that Andy Reed kind of cobbled together and then whether it had to do with injuries. |
3:17.1 | Or, you know, Westbrook eventually carving out that opportunity to have some dynamic seasons. That's great. But then you look at with Reed's teams historically. |
3:31.1 | There was only one Brian Westbrook and then he caught a guy at the end of his career at the end of his career in Jamal Charles, who was also just, you know, Hall of Fame caliber runner in terms of what you watch on film. Maybe not stats, though, I think that'll back it up one day too. |
3:47.1 | So when you look at Westbrook, the difference between Westbrook and Isaiah Pacheco is that you have to understand that Westbrook has had fantastic vision. Gil Brant, the reason I got in this industry was because I was listening to Gil Brant talk about Brian Westbrook years ago. |
4:04.1 | It was the first article I ever wrote on a player was actually Westbrook. And it was one of those situations where he said, listen, if Westbrook were 10 pounds heavier and an inch or two taller would be a top five overall pick. But draft capital was a big deal for him because he had two ACL tears. |
4:19.1 | He didn't he had his scholarship rescinded at FSU and he played at Villanova. So you take all those things that are risk management assets and his his stock drop. So when you look at a guy like Pacheco, he doesn't have the vision Westbrook had to begin his career. |
4:36.1 | I think that he also at Rutgers dealt with an offensive line that ran a lot of gap plays where you have pulling guards and those guards were often slow to get to their spots against better big 10 and better competition, you know, better teams. |
4:51.1 | And as a result of that oftentimes Pacheco had to take matters into his own hands to gain yardage, which can often be mistaken is that he doesn't have good vision. I think he has the potential to have good vision. But what you're seeing here is that he's going to have to adjust to NFL offenses and recognize situations where he has to stay the course because the blocks are a little slower to open traffic's a little bit tighter. |
5:15.1 | And he's not used to that when he sees that at Rutgers, he's like, I've got to create on my own, whereas when he's going to see that in Kansas City, their opportunities where he's going to say, I'm going to stay patient with this gap. I have to read the leverage a little bit better. I have to be a little sharper with what I see. |
