Summary

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is in how you face obstacles.

Your brain is hardwired to seek comfort and avoid growth, which keeps you stuck in mediocrity - in the ordinary.

This wiring, known as the Motivational Triad, is great for survival but terrible for achieving greatness.

In this episode, I’m breaking down the obstacles that stand between you and the badass version of yourself and the key to overcoming them.

What You Will Discover:

  • Why your brain's motivational triad (conserving energy, avoiding pain, seeking pleasure) directly sabotages extraordinary achievement.
  • How fragility and constant excuse-making weaken your ability to create results.
  • The hidden cost of approval-seeking and why you're wasting energy trying to please people you don't even respect.
  • What drama and negativity bonding really do to your mental fortitude and creative capacity.
  • The difference between self-love and self-coddling, and why one strengthens while the other weakens.
  • How to use negative emotions as opportunities to build strength instead of reasons to retreat.
  • Why accepting you're both good and bad, right and wrong, frees up massive energy for creation.

Welcome to part two of being a badass. In this segment, we are going to talk about the obstacles.

0:18.5

Now, to review, in part one, we talked about what being a badass is and my

0:24.9

definition and the components that I include in defining badassery. And just to review, they were

0:33.4

having an incredible work ethic and having mental fortitude, mental toughness.

0:40.2

And so as we go into this episode, I want to talk about all of the things that can get in the

0:47.6

way of you achieving the level of being a badass that you're going to need to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve.

0:58.7

So when you think about the obstacles to just keep it really simple, if you're not getting the results that you want in your life,

1:06.3

it is most likely because you don't have the skill of a work ethic that produces results,

1:15.3

either positive or negative, and you probably don't have the mental toughness that you're

1:21.1

going to need to be resilient enough to get there.

1:24.6

Now, one of the things that I talk about a lot is that being able to define a problem

1:31.1

clearly is the only way that you'll ever be able to solve it. And you want to be able to define a problem

1:40.0

where you are responsible for that problem. Because when you're responsible for causing the problem

1:47.4

and being the problem, then you have 100% agency in solving it. And this is the most important thing

1:56.0

that I can tell you. And as we move into the next episode and we talk more about tools, I'll elaborate on this.

2:01.6

But it's important to understand that when you define the problem and you define the obstacles,

2:06.0

then you can define the solution. And you don't have to change anybody else. You don't have to

2:10.3

change the world. You don't have to fix anything outside of you. You can manage all of it.

2:15.4

So in this episode, I'm going to be talking a lot about things that you are

2:22.1

responsible for and you can control. And when I do this with my clients, students, friends,

2:27.7

employees, it's very confronting. I know this because I do it with myself on the regular.
