Welcome to the Beginners Garden podcast. I'm Jill McShehehehe with Journey Withjil.net, and my goal is to give beginning garden me, life is starting to shift a little bit as my kids are now out of school and we're starting to get back into the

groove of summer. So now that life has changed a little bit more, I thought that I would do a

podcast episode on giving you some tips on how to get your kids involved in the garden. So whether

you have kids at home or whether you have grandkids that

come to visit or whatever your situation is, there are lots of different neat ways that I have found

that you can use to get children in your life involved in your garden. And I think it's so important

for many different reasons.

Now, I know a lot of you guys are new to the podcast, and you may not have listened to the very

earliest episodes when I shared with you my story and how I ended up getting involved in gardening

in the first place, because I certainly have not gardened all my life. So I'm just going to give you a brief story of how I got involved in

gardening and what that meant for me and my family. I started gardening six seasons ago and my

purpose for gardening was not because I loved it necessarily, but it was because I was a brand

new stay-at-home mom. I'd quit my job that I enjoyed, but I wanted to be home with my kids who

at the time were ages six and two. So my son was in kindergarten and my daughter was obviously

home with me. Along with quitting my job and becoming a stay-at-home mom,

I wanted to do what I could to help our family financially.

And at that time, really the only thing I could control

was the grocery spending.

So I started my garden simply for food

to be able to save money on groceries.

And obviously, you can tell it did not stay that way. I fell in love

with gardening. And now it's my hobby. It's everything that I get up and I want to do every day. So it became
