A couple of weeks ago

in mid-January 2026,

I went out in the dark to

fill my bird feeders.

I'm a night owl, so it was around

2 a.m. I wanted the

birds to have food in the morning

since they would be waking up in a few hours.

It was dark, though there is a string of lights that extends from the house,

wraps around a tree about 75 feet from the back of the house,

and back to a stand of trees about 40 or so feet from the back of the house, forming a large V.

surrounded by fence, so our dogs have plenty of room to roam, but can't go chasing off into the

woods after the wildlife that's here. Deer, coyotes, raccoons, black bear,

and all of the other creatures were surrounded with. I stepped out the back door, and just as I reached

for the closest bird feeder near the back wall of the house, I heard this guttural animal call.

It seemed to come from about 100 feet from the back fence line,

where the wooded area of our property comes closest to the house.
