Hello and welcome to Battleground Ukraine with me Saul David and Patrick Bishop.

Lots of interesting elements in the mix this week, all adding to the sense of drama and the feeling that the conflict is reaching a tipping point.

The summer has now arrived in Ukraine, so it's reasonable to assume that the tempo of fighting could rise significantly any day now.

We've been seeing some very interesting developments in theatre, particularly around Bakhmut,

where there's been some verified reports, including some striking imagery of Russian regular

army units running away and leaving the

Russian flanks exposed. There have also been more missile and drone strikes on Kiev and elsewhere.

All this is President Zelensky toured France and Britain to secure new supplies of weapons

and ammunition. But let's start with the desertions.

They seem pretty striking to me, Saul, those pictures of infantrymen legging it and being

cut down by artillery fire in the process. Yes, indeed. There does seem to have been a worrying

crumbling of discipline among the Russian regular troops, relinquishing hard won gains in

Bakhmut, and their performances has produced, needless to say, the expected torrent of

expletive laden fury from Wagner Bosyevgeny Progogian, whose men have been doing most of the
