Welcome. Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Habits. Some of the habits we have are good. Some of the habits we have aren't so good, and we don't like them.

So how do we transform an unhealthy habit into a good habit?

How do we go about doing that?

Let me use an example to illustrate. I like chocolate. I actually

really like fudge. In this past April I went to a monastery called St.

Yosemite in Kentucky and found that they had the most magnificent

fudge that the monks make there.

And every day they had samples out for all the retreatants. So before I came home I ordered myself a box and since

I've been home I've ordered a couple more because they'll ship it anywhere in the world.

Anyways, I like fudge, but imagine if I every day came home after work and ate a box of fudge, that

would not be a very good habit.

And bad habits ultimately lead us towards unhappiness because anything we do that isn't healthy for us

is going to cause us suffering and with time that suffering will build and build and build

until we'll be very unhappy.

Actually bad habits can often be construed as addictions.

They start off as something small, but with time they become very addictive and they're called

addictions.

And having addictions and having happiness really don't go hand in hand very well.

let's figure out how to change bad habits into something else, preferably something good for us.
