Summary

Welcome back Andy, of Harry Potter Fan Zone (and PotterNoMore.com)! This is Part 1 of a two-part episode, wherein the hosts discuss the most Shocking Moments in Harry Potter Fandom History. First up: In 2005, JK Rowling invites fan site heads Emerson and Melissa to her house! In 2007, before Deathly Hallows and high-speed internet, a live stream revealed a new Harry Potter theme park! What was the significance of a Potter-themed park at the time? ...but Andy had already been to a Harry Potter theme park, down in Australia, called Warner Bros. "Movie World"! Also in 2007, JKR Fan Site Award winner The HP Lexicon was taken to court by JKR/WB over their plans for a book. How did this feel to us as fellow fan site workers? The split that changed it all: How WB's decision to break up The Deathly Hallows changed history and set the bar for future film franchises to come. Half-Blood Prince's unexpected release date postponement disappointed fans like few things had at the time. Andrew had made a reaction video and a new version of the HBP trailer. Pottermore announced: We discuss the early days of the website, why it was so special, and what ultimately happened to it. Stay tuned next week for more shocking news moments, like the time JKR confirmed she was finally writing an Encyclopedia, Fantastic Beasts coming into existence, the earliest Cursed Child information, and so much more. Welcome to Muggle Caster Weekly Ride into the Wizarding World fandom. I'm Andrew. I'm Eric.

0:48.9

I'm Micah. I'm Laura. We have a big episode for everybody today. We are going to relive some of the most shocking moments of the past two decades in Harry Potter, fandom history. It's such a big episode. It's such a big discussion that we're doing it across two episodes. And we're joined today by one of our friends Andy. Hey Andy, welcome back to the show.

1:12.9

I love it. Thanks for having me back again. Andy is the founder and webmaster of Harry Potter Fanzone.com. So like us, he has experienced all of these moments that we're going to be talking about over the next two episodes. And you're down in Australia. I think it's winter there, right?

1:29.9

It is. It's cold and rainy here, but I'm ready to dive into the Penn save and look at some shocking moments.

1:34.9

Actually, this is good because we'll be talking at points. I think about how like, oh wow, summer, that's so crazy. You know, we were hot as hell. And I was cold.

1:43.9

That's cold. I said inside. Remember that the summer of Potter doesn't land quite the same. Yeah, exactly. But speaking of shocking stories, your site, Harry Potter, fanzone.com, actually won a JK Rowling fan site award back in the day. What year was that? And that must have been really shocking for you.

2:01.9

Oh, it was incredible. That was 2007. So it was like literally a couple of weeks before Deathly Hulles was published. So I was kind of all gearing up for that to be the biggest story on the site for the year. And then I work out one morning and there's a fan site award email, which is just incredible.

2:15.9

Now, who does that email come from not rolling herself, right? One of our people, I guess.

2:20.9

Yeah, J, J, K Rowling knows you want to do people and like, I thought it was a joke at first because it's such a surreal thing. You know, you make a fan site for the fans. You never think the person who created the universe that you're that you're blogging about. Well, they really read your work and see the things you built. So like it was an amazing thing to get.

2:40.9

That's really incredible. And then she said a couple of kind words about the site on her site. That is so cool. And then they give you a little graphic that you can post on your site. They do it. It's still there today.

2:51.9

I love it. It's never going on. Nice.

2:54.9

And that's probably the size that you have it on the site right now. It's in the footer. The size that you have it. That's probably the exact size they sent it.

3:01.9

Oh, that was like, right, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's like a 90 by 90 pixel little.

3:10.9

You should try to contact your minute to load on 56k.

3:14.9

Yeah.

3:15.9

And you had to send it to download overnight. So we could get it.

3:19.9

Anyway, great to have you here. And we're excited to have you back because like I said, you you lived it all. So actually speaking of websites, it's time to jump into our discussion.

3:31.9

The most shocking Harry Potter moments in fandom history. We will be going primarily in chronological order. And Micah, do you want to kick things off?
