Summary

Periodontal disease is correlated with just about every type of illness and disease. Sometimes it’s a canary in the coal mine for something wrong, but sometimes, it can even be the source of the problem. While many people dismiss dental care as only an aesthetic concern, straight, healthy teeth and a broad palate help with breathing, sleep and even digestion. My guest on this week’s podcast shares his academic and clinical experiences helping people improve their smiles as a means to improving their health.

Listen and learn:

  • Why fluoride can be great for teeth, but should not be ingested
  • The benefits of hydroxyapatite as an alternative to fluoride
  • How the billions of microbes in your mouth play a crucial role in digestion
  • The benefits of xylitol in dental care products

once a year and we had a dentist come in and the dentist would lecture about the importance

of brushing and flossing and dental hygiene and would show us models of teeth and jaws

and they'd give us these little tablets that we chew and they'd make any plaque that might

have been on our teeth turned pink. They'd give us toothbrushes and then we had to go

brush off the pink stuff. They filled up dixie cups with fluoride and we would all collectively

in an auditorium, swish it around for a minute and then spit it all out. It was what I thought a

totally normal experience. Come to find out. I've now lived half my life abroad. This is a very

0:49.1

unique experience that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world, at least not that I have

heard of. In fact, many people in other parts of the world have never flost in their life.

I think there's a lot of great things about oral hygiene. Perhaps the US goes a little bit

1:01.6

overboard but as I started to dive into the natural health world, there's a lot of outright

rejection of oral care products, specifically fluoride and dentistry in general and the

1:15.5

they excuse people usually give is that it's reckless, it's mostly cosmetic and it doesn't

really help with your health and that's a half truth at best. Oral hygiene is super important

and my guest on this week's show will help you understand why. If you're new here, it's the Lucas

bring their best research here to hopefully help us live more informed and inspired lives.
