Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of the kings of Israel and Judah with 1 Samuel 21.

We're going to start today with

1 Samuel 21, but I'm not quite sure how far we'll get. I'm not sure whether to deal with the next

four chapters in one episode or two. So if you may remember, David is running from Saul. Saul is the king.

David has been anointed king by Samuel, but he is not king.

Now, one of the things that's interesting about that when I think about our lives is there's a

couple different times in the Bible where someone is told that this will happen, but then they have to

wait for it. And the three examples I think of are Joseph.

Joseph is given a dream and told that he's going to be something special.

And in the meantime, he ends up in jail.

He ends up sold into slavery.

All of those things he has to go through.

I think of Abraham.

Abraham is told that he is going to have a son.

He doesn't immediately have it,

not even nine months later. It happens years later, enough so that he tries to take matters into

his own hands and has the son Ishmael, not the son of promise. And then I think here of David.

And David is anointed king, but David won't be king for years. Saul is already king. And so David is

running from Saul. And Saul wants to kill David and he wants to kill him because he believes that

David will replace him, which is true. We pick up the story in 1 Samuel 21. David went to Nob to
