Summary

When we speak about mental health, is it fair to say that the language is often feminine? Why is it that the advice given typically revolves around journalling, taking baths, meditating, and things that simply don't resonate with a large swathe of the male population (and a fair chunk of the female population, too!). In the world of nutrition we all know that you need to find an approach that works for your preferences, but why is it that when we talk about mental health things get far more prescriptive? Does EVERYONE need to talk about their problems as a first port of call?
This show delves into the emotional differences of men and women, why the person you confide in could make or break your future, why spending time being alone with your problems is key, why developing strength in one area of your life leads to another, and more mental health ramblings. Enjoy.

I am wicked.

0:10.2

And I think today's conversation is going to be really interesting.

0:13.6

When we first planned it, I didn't really get kind of what Tom meant with this topic.

0:18.4

And then once I read through this email that Tom sent out to one of our newsletters. I thought it was a

0:24.8

fascinating conversation how sort of mental health and body positivity and

0:31.4

generally looking after yourself from a mindset perspective is quite often spoken about in sort of female terms you know it's it's often directed at females as well and I don't know if this is because maybe

0:46.1

there's more of a problem there maybe women are more open to speaking about it

0:49.9

maybe and in my experience as a coach I'd be honest in saying that you know women are a bit more emotion led

0:56.5

in just sort of in general terms I don't know if that's why but you know me and Tom have just been sort of having a little off-air debate

1:04.9

or conversation around this and I think it's absolutely fascinating because actually

1:09.7

if we're going to talk about looking after our mental health in general, we need to find the nuances

1:16.4

and essentially develop ways that you can help yourself have good mental health and levels of emotional well-being because otherwise

1:25.1

You're sitting there listening to all these podcasts videos social media posts whatever and you're like that's just not me like I wouldn't do that I wouldn't deal with my

1:33.6

mental health in that way so I think this is a really interesting topic yeah yeah

1:38.1

definitely and obviously I want to preface this by saying first of all neither of us are psychotherapists and we're not

1:45.2

talking about mental health issues that would require genuine medication to deal with and things

1:51.6

like that we're speaking more in terms of overall mental well-being and emotional well-being which is a good way that Ben framed this like no in no way are we trying to cure bipolar or anything like that.

2:04.7

I just want to get that out the way so we're not misconstrued along the way.

2:08.1

Of course these things can help people in that situation, but it's not going to cure
