This week's mailbag comes to us from Tanya.

I just wanted to let you know that the paper organization just saved me over $400.

We had our semi-annual HVAC service this week.

It was an uneventful visit.

Thankfully, our 12-year-old system is chugging along just fine.

However, the service tech noted, while it wasn't urgent, we should consider replacing the

hard, start, capacitor.

It would be $400 plus for parts in labor.

I relayed the information to my husband as he was away.

My husband recalled that we had a capacitor replace last year and asked me to review our

records.

Enter, the household reference binder to the rescue.

I knew exactly where to go to pull out our old records.

Sure enough, 368 days ago, we replaced the capacitor.

I called the service company and asked if the capacitor we replaced last year was the

same one they were suggesting we replaced this year.

They pulled up our record and said it was indeed the same one.

Because it was the same one, they offered to replace it for free because we were so close

to the one-year warranty date.

Woohoo!

$400 is still in my pocket and we get a new capacitor.
