Summary

For seven weeks in 1936 and 1937, workers at the General Motors plant in Flint Michigan held a risky sit-down strike. A true David vs. Goliath story, their strike won recognition for the United Auto Workers and changed labour in the United States forever. With a newer UAW strike fresh in the memory, we discuss the BBC documentary THE GREAT SIT-DOWN (1976). 0:42.4

who don't, he is the New England-based songwriter slash filmmaker, who is notable, among

0:48.2

other things, for having written 25,000 songs on Spotify, which through the accrual of many

0:54.0

pennies, he makes into a living wage.

0:56.6

But also, to some of us, to a smaller number of us, he and his friend Charlie Roxburgh are great

filmmakers who have made this very impressive body of work as backyard productions. And I will,

1:07.3

I will not rest until he has his retrospective on the Criterion Channel, which I think will happen.

This is maybe treading old ground for older listeners, but if you're a new listener,

1:21.6

you may not know that my esteemed co-host Will Sloan has actually played a not negligible

1:26.6

role in putting Matt Farley's

1:28.6

cinema on the map. I've only seen, I think, two of Matt Farley's movies, but they are remarkable,

1:34.2

unique, unusual, absolutely worthy of, you know, wider discussion, wider viewing. And Will,

1:40.2

you published a book called Moturn on Moturn that was a series of interviews with you and
