Welcome to the Happiness Podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time with both sets of my grandparents. I was close to them, and I got to know all my grandparents quite well because I spent so much time with them. And I've always had an

0:21.0

infinity towards older people. I just really enjoy hanging out with people that are older. I love

0:25.7

hearing about their stories and their lives. I find it fascinating. The one thing I learned about

0:31.0

one of my grandparents particularly is that they like to often share their aches and pains that they

0:37.1

have. And when they get together with other people that have aches and pains that they have. And when they get together

0:38.8

with other people that have aches and pains that are older, they kind of compare who has the worst

0:42.9

aches and pains. As a youth, I thought it was very funny, but it was also very endearing. It was

0:49.7

like they were competing who had the worst aches and pains. And my grandparents and the other people that

0:54.8

came over weren't really upset about it. They were just more competing who had the worst aches and

1:00.3

pains. All my grandparents were quite happy and good people. But as they age, they had aches and pains.

1:07.2

But like I said, my one grandmother who really did it the most, she was really a very beautiful,

1:12.4

jovial soul. And because I've spent so much time over the years with people that are elderly,

1:18.4

I've learned that most people, if not all people, as they go through life, they have aches and

1:23.9

pains of the body, and they get aches and pains of the heart too. It is incredibly common

1:29.0

and just seems to be part of life. I want to share another story relates to my grandparents' story.

1:34.9

It comes from spiritual lore. Some of you may have heard of it, but it's a good story. There was a

1:41.3

woman once who really loved her child so deeply. It was really her life. It was her

1:46.8

only child. And she just adored him. One day he got very, very sick. And the doctors couldn't do

1:53.8

anything to help him. And then he died. Well, she wasn't ready for him to die. So she went around

2:00.2

house after house asking if someone could help her by caring for her son and making him well again.

2:05.5

And they looked at her with sadden and caring hearts, but there is nothing they could do.

2:11.3

Finally, one person told her, go to the master.
