| 0:00.0 | This is the Read to Lead podcast, episode 509, and what you're about to hear is probably the most |
| 0:06.5 | unplanned podcast episode in about 10 and a half years. |
| 0:11.1 | It's all come together in literally the last 24, 48 hours or so. |
| 0:17.5 | And I don't mean to suggest that it's not worth listening to because very little planning has gone into it. |
| 0:24.4 | In case you don't know, a friend of the show, Dan Miller, author of 48 Days to the Work and Life you love, got cancer diagnosis just a little over a month ago. |
| 0:35.1 | I believe it was December the 7th. |
| 0:37.1 | And I don't think he would mind me sharing some of the details of this. |
| 0:40.0 | He's already shared it publicly himself. |
| 0:42.5 | There were some gall bladder issues that turned into a little bit more than gallbladder issues. |
| 0:48.6 | And the diagnosis is pancreatic cancer. |
| 0:52.3 | It's moved to his bones and his liver, and all that they can do now is |
| 0:57.3 | manage the pain, and the doctors, and I'm quoting here from Dan directly, say, you have six |
| 1:03.7 | months max. And so that has come as a shock, certainly to Dan, and to many people who love and care about him deeply. |
| 1:12.7 | I am one of those people. And it's been tough, I have to admit. It's not tough as being told |
| 1:18.3 | that you have cancer for yours, truly, obviously. But I've suffered with a lack of motivation. |
| 1:25.4 | I'm not blaming Dan's situation on on on that. But I have |
| 1:29.7 | been impacted by it in the sense that I've not been motivated. If I'm being honest, to read any |
| 1:34.7 | books or do any interviews. In fact, what I published to the end of the year was was in the can. |
| 1:40.1 | And though I've got a few interviews scheduled, there's nothing in the can right now. |
| 1:44.9 | That's not why you're getting this episode today. |
| 1:47.4 | Let me be clear. |
| 1:48.7 | I did want to take this time to honor Dan and his impact on me and impact on so many. |
