About This Episode:

There is no shortage of misleading, confusing and even dangerous nutrition information on the internet. And, unfortunately, much of it can sound very convincing and appealing to people who wish to improve their health. The result can be that they may end up ironically doing the opposite.

At an individual level, dietitians and medical practitioners end up having to work with patients who have heard incorrect information or who have been following poor advice.

What issues does this present? What is the most productive way to help patients and clients in this situation? How can we help give better information while also listening and caring for the patient?

To discuss such questions, dietitian Jonathan Steedman is on the podcast to share his experiences and approaches to spreading evidence-based information in a palatable and productive manner.

About The Guest:

Jonathan Steedman is an Acredited Practising Dietitian (APD) in Australia. He currently works with patientes via telehealth services. He is well-known on social media for explaining confusing nutrition topics in a way that is understandable and engaging for the general population.

where he works with patients and clients, he has done a great job on social media of explaining

1:04.2

confusing nutrition topics in a way that is understandable and engaging for the general population and people that are just

1:13.9

looking to get some reasonable information or seem to be confused by conflicting ideas. And so I wanted

1:20.3

to talk to Jono today about some of these ideas ranging from how to approach certain topics with clients and patients.

have some preconceptions about different topics read to diet and health.

in terms of their current views or current ideas they may have heard? And also not overwhelming

1:56.0

them with the amount of information we give or by listing everything in all the detail that we would

2:02.5

like to, given that we enjoy talking about these topics. And so we are going to get into a number

2:07.1

of these issues, and in particular, I'm interested, as I always am when I am talking to people

2:12.4

who are at the front lines talking and working with patients, is to see how some of the poor information

2:20.3

that can be around the internet actually trickles down into the real world.

2:24.3

Because on this podcast, we've often talked about the problems with people on the internet
