Summary

In this episode, I explore the profound difference between commitment and devotion and why that distinction might be the thing standing between you and the life you're actually meant to live. Commitment lives in the mind; it's strategic, rigid, and safe, but devotion is sacred. It's the full surrender to your mission, your dharma, the great work of your life. We dive into why so many of us stay stuck in tolerable disappointment, how rock bottom can actually be the portal to alignment, and the four keys from the Bhagavad Gita that will challenge you to stop chasing someone else's version of success and start showing up fully, authentically, and reverently for your own. 00:00 Devotion vs. Commitment: 04:04 Defining Dharma 05:36 Power of Surrender 09:21 Internalizing Worth 11:00 Path of Action: 14:49 Iterations of Self Resources: Get My Book! Hello and welcome to another episode of the Mark Gross podcast.

This solo episode is about devotion and the difference between devotion and commitment.

0:10.2

Now look, you might be trying to achieve something in your life.

0:13.1

You might be trying to find a partnership, create a business, make money, whatever it is.

0:17.9

And in doing that, there's a difference between being committed to your goals

0:22.5

and being devoted to them, being devoted to a relationship, being devoted to your mission,

0:30.0

your purpose. Now, I really believe that if you want to find the way to actually change,

0:35.5

to go past the place that you have been sort of

0:38.6

stopped before, where you've been frozen, where you've ended up in indecision, where you sabotage

0:43.0

the thing, where you maybe even choose people or jobs that never allow you to ever get the

0:48.4

thing you desire because it's easier to live in that tolerable level of disappointment

0:52.9

because it's familiar to you,

0:55.1

then actually get all the things that you've always wanted that you've been grieving your whole

0:59.4

life, right? Like, that's a bit of a mind F to think about, that if you actually got the thing,

1:05.2

you'd no longer have an excuse for the limitations of your life. That's a big thing to think

1:10.2

about. Look, everyone has challenges in their

1:12.7

life. No one has a corner on that market, and certainly we wouldn't want one. But there is an

1:18.7

opportunity for you to step into the transformation by finding something that matters more to you

1:25.5

than your excuses, more to you than your suffering. And none of

1:29.2

this is negating your suffering. We get stuck there like you're not validating my victim experience or my

1:35.1

trauma. Validate the crap out of that. And yet, you still want to create something with your life.

1:41.2

And yet, you still want to become something. And yet, you don't have the relationship you something and yet you don't have the relationship you want yet you don't have the money you want yet and you notice that all of
