Hyperbaric chambers use pressure, and in some cases concentrated oxygen, to treat a wide variety of injuries and ailments. You’ve no doubt heard of high-level athletes using these treatments to speed up recovery, but you might not realize hyperbaric therapy is approved for 14+ medical conditions.

On this week’s podcast, we’ll explore the safe and simple use of pressurized therapy for reduced inflammation, oxygenation of plasma, fighting off infections, and more.

Listen and learn:

  • How pressure increases oxygen-rich plasma for health and healing
  • How pressure vasoconstricts and reduce inflammation

When most people think of hyperbaric chambers, they think about scuba divers who are susceptible

0:08.7

to something called the bends and the bends is when someone comes up too quickly from being

0:12.7

at depth and they get too much nitrogen in their system. Nitrogen is part of our ambient air right

0:18.4

now, but when you go scuba diving you're breathing compressed air. So there's quite a bit more nitrogen

0:23.8

per breath and you get too much nitrogen. It can cause all kinds of problems. You feel sick and

0:28.2

cause nerve damage. In extreme cases, people can even get paralyzed. That doesn't usually happen.

0:33.2

But if somebody has the bends very often in dive towns and dive centers, they'll have access to

0:38.4

a hyperbaric chamber and they'll they'll pressurize you. They'll pump you down below sea level,

0:42.6

help you to clear out that excess nitrogen. Well, these chambers, these hyperbaric chambers are now

0:48.4

being used by medical professionals as well as off script. They're being used in garages and

0:54.1

basements all around the world to help athletes recover faster from workouts to help people with

brain problems, neurodegenerative things to help reduce inflammation to help overcome chronic

illnesses like Lyme's disease. And it's pretty interesting stuff. It's also a little bit terrifying

1:11.6

to think about somebody playing around with medical gizmos in their garage, but hey, there are

1:16.4

worse things that you could do. My guest on this week's podcast is one of the leading voices in

hyperbaric therapy. And I hope you get some good ideas. If you're new here, it's the Lucas
