This is episode five where we interview AJ Giuliani to talk to him about 20% time.

I had heard about 20% time.

I had a pretty vague idea of what it was like or what it was about.

And I wanted to talk to somebody who had really tried it and had maybe gone through some trial

and error with it to see what kinds of problems he had, what it actually looked like on a day-to-day

basis, whether he encountered any resistance from students and just to basically try to answer a lot of the questions

that people would have if they were thinking about trying it but were unsure.

So before I put the interview on, I would just like to ask you if you are listening to this, just as a regular download,

So if you could just start, like as if you are talking to somebody who has never heard of it,

what is 20% time and also could you explain sort of is there the difference between 20% time and genius hour

and whether those two terms are interchangeable or not?

For 20% time and genius hour, the idea really came from Google who doesn't have that 20% time.

So they give their employees 20% of the time as a policy, since Google started out to work on anything they are passionate about,

anything that interested them.

So that 20% time came from Google and a lot of Google products came out of that 20% time.
