Hi everyone. My name is Pete Guzaro. I want to welcome you today to the emotionally healthy

leader podcast. Our topic today is five ways your family of origin undermines your leadership

and what to do about it. And actually today we're going to be in a two-part series at the root

of so many problems in our Christian life and as well, of course, in our leadership way more

than we realize because our families of origin, however it is you may have grown up,

is the most powerful system that has shaped who you are

than you've ever had. And so even if you love Jesus, you read your Bible, you go to church,

you're leading a church, you inevitably carry into your leadership how you were formed and shaped

by your family unless you do some serious discipleship work. The messages spoken and unspoken impact us

in significant ways as you're going to see in the next two podcasts. Unless you do or allow Jesus

to do the deep work in you that you get free to be the unique man, the unique woman, God has called you to be. So because Jesus is calling us, really you, that you get free to be the unique man, the unique woman, God has called you to be.

So, because Jesus is calling us, really, you, you're unrepeatable into a great freedom.

And so let me just introduce briefly, just our little theology here of family of origin and new family of

Jesus before we plunge into the first three of our five points about our

family of origin. So we're all born into families, and that impact on us, regardless of where

you are in the world, has impact going through generations. Actually, the Bible says three to four

generations, that the sins of the fathers tend to be repeated

in the generations that will follow.

That's the best Hebrew translation for the word.

He punishes the sins of the fathers and the children and grandchildren, three to four

generations, which means today, the late 1800s, what was happening in your family of origin

has still shaping you today.
