The House and Senate are on a collision course, with no clear path to avoid a government shutdown.

The deadline to pass a short-term funding bill is just days away.

Senate leaders unveiled a stopgap measure Tuesday,

but some House Republicans say it's dead on arrival.

In a private meeting today, House Speaker

Kevin McCarthy again tried to convince his conference to get behind a short-term

spending plan, warning his conference that a shutdown would undercut their

push to secure the border.

That's according to sources in the room.

I don't understand where somebody would want to stand with President Biden

on keeping an open border and not keep government open.

McCarthy signaled that there isn't enough support in the House

for the Senate's budget bill, but plans to call for a vote on the House's version.

Congressman Mike Garcia also called on his conservative colleagues to try to avoid a shutdown.

It's a very dangerous tactic to take to say, hey I want to shut the damn thing down because

it literally benefits and it especially doesn't benefit the conservative platform.
