the United States House of Representatives is hereby declared vacant.

Kevin McCarthy has been ousted as House Speaker in a historic vote, an effort led by

GOP Congressman Matt Gates.

The vote was 216 to 210, with 8 Republicans supporting McCarthy's removal.

Earlier the House failed to block a motion to oust McCarthy. In a rare move

Gates introduced a resolution to remove Speaker McCarthy. No Speaker has ever been ousted through a

resolution. Prior to the vote, lawmakers held a debate on the House floor. Here is

They blame the United Auto Workers Union decision to expand ongoing strikes.
