Summary

I got a DM earlier last week that asked me if there are "some days that running just a mile feels impossible." HA! I give my answer in today's 5-MINUTE FRIDAY, and some words of wisdom to those who feel as though they're currently (and constantly!) on the struggle bus.

What is going on, everyone? Emily, a body here. You are listening to another installment

0:22.0

of five minute Friday from hurdle. Hope everyone had a good week. I had a good week.

0:28.0

I feel like it was extremely productive all by admittedly a little difficult for me because I

0:34.7

have just been trying to get my feedback under me over year post vacation. What I will say is that

0:44.0

for me, the best part about being back home is getting back into a routine, leaving New York and

0:53.0

going away for a few weeks for the most part really reminded me of the importance of routine and

1:01.2

that we get to do these things oftentimes that give back to our bodies on the regular and set us

1:09.5

up for success in the day to day, which is pretty rad. Anyway, that is not what I'm here to talk to

1:15.1

you about today. What I'm here to talk to you about today is a DM that I got in my inbox the other

1:20.9

day. The DM asked me if I ever feel as though it is impossible to run a mile. That long pause is

1:31.0

deliberate. The answer to this question is yes. Here's the deal. Yes, no matter how long someone has

1:39.5

been doing something, especially when it comes to some form of physical fitness, there are going

1:45.9

to be days that that person feels as though they are on the struggle bus. Even the most elite of elite

1:53.6

athletes have these days, we're doing the thing that they get paid to do feels difficult. For me,

2:01.1

I mean, just this week, getting back to that normal routine that I spoke about, I was super

2:06.5

intimidated about it. I was nervous about it. I knew that going out for that first chunk of miles,

2:13.9

a five mile run that I had on Wednesday was going to feel like absolute junk. I have been eating and

2:21.6

drinking and dining and staying up late and waking up early and all the things. And so is that

2:26.9

the formula for me to wake up and feel my best? Hell, no, not at all. But I knew that getting up,

2:35.3

getting out and pushing myself was going to make me feel good again. And so I did it. And on that

2:43.6

run, I mean, the first minute, half mile mile, who am I getting? Two miles. I didn't feel truly like

2:50.8

myself until maybe, hmm, maybe mile four. And even then, it didn't feel stellar. So the question,
