Summary

Welcome to 5-Minute Fridays, a new segment from Hurdle where I share a quick story, offer you a prompt that makes you think, and share a few of my top highlights of the week — whether that’s a podcast, an app, a streaming workout, a quote — you get the idea. PLEASE, let me know what you think. Do you like this? What do you want to hear about?

This week: Are you struggling with how things were “supposed” to be? Hey, I feel you. Two months ago, coronavirus wasn't here. I was celebrating Valentine's Day with a glass of wine with my best friend at my favorite restaurant, surrounded by dozens of people. And now? We're wearing masks the moment we walk outside of our homes and can't go within 6 feet of another person. I’m here to tell you that it’s OK to feel let down, sharing a story about something tough I'm going through personally. The catch: Make sure you do this one critical thing, and keep looking forward.

PROMPT: What are you grateful for right this very moment?

It's at Emily Abadi and at Hurtle podcast. So for this week, I'm talking about something that I feel like a lot of other people feel right now, but may not be so vocal about it. Listen, things are crazy right now. They're chaotic.

1:32.3

We are all living in this state of ambient anxiety, but it's hard not to think about what was

1:41.2

supposed to be. I am on day 10 of not running.

1:49.3

I went out for a jaunt 10 days ago.

1:55.3

And toward the end of the run,

1:57.5

I had a pain that felt so debilitating and uncomfortable on my left side near my hip

2:06.0

that I had to stop. With about a mile left to my house, I walked, and I was beside myself, that finally after this pain had come and gone for the last

2:23.2

few months, that it was about time I really gave my body some rest. Now, the last thing that

2:33.0

anyone wants to deal with during a pandemic again when we're feeling

2:37.8

anxious and we're staying inside for the most part and when running is your coping mechanism

2:44.3

is that you cannot run.

2:47.4

So while no one told me I couldn't run, I knew and I know that is important, so important

2:55.2

to give my body some rest. Now, I can't help but think in all of this that next week I was

3:03.8

supposed to be heading to London. Next week, I was going to be gearing up for what would be my ninth marathon.
