Summary

Things are tough right now. My heart goes out to so many of those in the Hurdle community and beyond impacted by the Los Angeles fires. In today's episode, I'm talking about why it's important not to breeze past trauma — and the importance of feeling your feelings. Plus: Answering a listener question about how to go after your goals when you lose sight of your why.

Hey, everyone. Emily Abadi here. You are listening to Five Minute Friday on Hurtle. My heart right now,

0:28.7

I am heartbroken watching from afar what's going on in Los Angeles. And I am sending so much love to the West Coast,

0:41.2

knowing that there are so many people I know and love that have been impacted by these fires.

0:48.1

I also know that it's the second biggest market for hurdle. And many of you listening to this

0:53.2

right now are located on the west coast

0:56.3

as well and so I want you to know that I am with you that I'm thinking of you I feel helpless but I know

1:03.8

that there are certain things that I can do like listing resources in the newsletter that went out

1:09.4

this morning if you're not yet subscribed

1:11.1

to the weekly hurdle newsletter, you can do that by clicking on over to the show notes.

1:16.8

So yeah, sharing those resources, also resharing things on social that I feel like are relevant

1:21.8

and helpful as well. In the newsletter today, I put this post from a friend Liz that she shared and it was talking

1:29.7

about how to show up for someone. Her tips include checking in frequently, avoid generic

1:35.2

advice, don't minimize, offer to help practical assistance, provide food and gather donations.

1:42.9

And what I want to talk about today is that don't minimize tip

1:47.4

because I, like many of you, I am sure, am someone that likes to be an optimist, but it is so

1:54.7

important to feel your feelings, whether we are talking about this in relation to what is going on in California or not,

2:03.1

right? We don't work hard in life. We don't go through life expecting necessarily to fail or

2:09.0

for things not to go as we had hoped. And especially during something that is so unexpected,

2:15.3

so unprecedented, it is natural to feel so many ways. There can be so much pressure

2:24.3

to ask yourself what's next, to keep moving forward. And while, yes, I do believe in the power

2:32.2

of picking yourself up and progressing, the feeling is just as important.
