OFFERS
BLUBlox | I have been wearing my BLUBlox constantly, anti-blue light glasses, which help me to navigate persistent headaches and discomfort from way too much time in front of the computer (thank you, pandemic). They’ve got loads of cute styles, and after three months of consistent wear, they’ve made a major difference for me. Head to BLUBlox.com/Hurdle and use "HURDLE" at checkout for 15 percent off.
BaronFig | I write in my BaronFig notebook every single day, first thing. I’m obsessed with the clothbound cover, the fact that it lays flat when you open it, and how it looks on the shelf. I’m especially into their guided-editions, daily journals that focus on different topic areas like meditation, habit formation, and dream tracking. Head over to BaronFig.com and use “HURDLE20” at checkout for 20 percent off a guided edition today.

| 0:00.0 | Hey Herdlers, Emily Abadi here bringing you another installment of Five Minute Friday. |
| 0:25.8 | For those new to the show on Fridays, I tell a story. |
| 0:29.9 | I offer you a thought prompt to take you into the weekend. |
| 0:33.2 | Then I share my highlights of the week, my content picks, the stuff that I'm listening to |
| 0:38.5 | and reading and watching and so on. And then last but not least, I finish us off with a listener |
| 0:45.2 | question. So yesterday, I woke up in a Boston hotel room. Now I had some work in Boston. |
| 0:55.8 | So I drove up there, I went to the car by myself and that just felt like the smartest, |
| 1:01.2 | easiest quote unquote, safest way to go about it. So I wake up in Boston to an alarm. |
| 1:08.2 | And I am like completely disoriented when I wake up. Firstly, because as someone who used to travel |
| 1:13.6 | a ton to wake up somewhere that's not my bed felt super odd, but also because I mentioned |
| 1:20.4 | I woke up to an alarm. I have not been setting an alarm for the entire coronavirus pandemic. |
| 1:27.2 | I would say this is certainly a silver lining. And even without the alarm, I mean, |
| 1:32.2 | some days I'm awake at 5.30 and other days I'm wake closer to 7. I just kind of trust my body |
| 1:39.0 | that I'm going to get up whenever feels right for the amount of sleep that I actually need. |
| 1:45.2 | So when the alarm went off, I laid there for a minute and I asked myself, like, will I be |
| 1:50.4 | better for today if I just get another 30 minutes of sleep? This is definitely something that |
| 1:57.2 | was on my radar. I as a result, instinctively just asked Siri plightly to set an alarm for 6.30 |
| 2:04.8 | and close my eyes. And I would say about another 60 seconds went by before I sat up and like took |
| 2:12.4 | this like super deep breath and just put my feet on the floor, walked to the bathroom, |
| 2:17.5 | splashed some water on my face and I was like, well, yeah, we're going to get up. Now admittedly, |
| 2:23.6 | I've always been pretty good at mornings, like even back in college after what we used to call |
| 2:29.2 | nickel night, like way too many drinks that cost five cents and going to bed decently |
