Summary
Sometimes you've just gotta get out of your own damn way. Small victory: I'm finally strength training regularly. That's a sentence I haven't been able to say since ... 2016? 2015? Today I'm talking about how I made this a regular habit, ridding myself of excuses, and saddling up to a challenge.

| 0:00.0 | Hey everybody, Emily Avadi here coming to you from the AG studio. |
| 0:24.4 | You are listening to another installment of five minutes Friday from hurdle. I feel like |
| 0:30.3 | it's been a moment since I've sat down and candidly talked to you all. Do you miss |
| 0:34.4 | me? I hope your year is off to a good start. I said this to a friend yesterday. I feel |
| 0:41.4 | like I have been holed up in my apartment partly a little just anxious about all of the |
| 0:47.5 | things just as loosely with COVID and then partly because I'm just working really hard |
| 0:52.9 | to set a stellar foundation for what it is I hope to build this year on that note of |
| 1:00.3 | setting a stellar foundation today. I want to talk to you about something that I haven't |
| 1:05.2 | been committed to. I would say arguably I mean with the with the caveat of physical therapy. |
| 1:13.2 | I haven't been committed to this to this level since maybe like 2016 and that my dear |
| 1:24.8 | hurtlers is strength training. You know, it's so funny, right? I identify as a runner and |
| 1:30.2 | you'll hear runners say all the time like I am going to a strength train. If I strength |
| 1:35.4 | train and do single leg stuff and think about balance, then I will be a better runner. |
| 1:40.0 | Because I have all of these lofty running goals and I'm going to make it a priority. But |
| 1:44.3 | like how many times have you or at least I mean, I won't, okay, I won't project on you. |
| 1:48.3 | But how many times have I told myself I am going to do that? I'm going to make this priority. |
| 1:53.8 | And yet I do the bare minimum just so I can get by. Well, I finally decided after navigating |
| 2:00.9 | injury this marathon season that I was going to commit to strength training and to act |
| 2:05.6 | on that goal and make it something that really happened. I took it to the next level and |
| 2:12.1 | decided to start working with a trainer, not one on one in a physical setting here in |
| 2:17.1 | New York, like inside of an equinox, but rather via the future app. I wrote an article all |
| 2:22.0 | about my experience to read about it. You can click on over to the show notes and check |
