Staff meetings, like it or not, are a critical building block for an emotionally healthy church culture.

Over the years, I have learned that staff meetings are a powerful opportunity to bring encouragement, clarify roles, and learn how to be with Jesus together. There are books written about how to have a productive or efficient staff meeting, but in today’s podcast, I take a different approach. I’ve identified 5 ways to cultivate emotional health in your regular meetings.

and our topic today is five distinctives of an emotionally healthy staff meeting. Five

Now, my history with running staff or team meetings is not very good in the beginning.

I just wanted to preach, I wanted to teach, I wanted to cast a vision, and recruit people

for a mission for God.

And so in my early days, I really had a very compartmentalized spirituality.

Preaching and teaching, that was holy on God's heart.

But leading a staff meeting and all that kind of thinking that needed to go into an agenda

and all the stuff around it, to me it was secondary.

It wasn't quite as holy.

I would show up onto these staff meetings that I was leading

and I'd actually think about it driving to the church. And I'd be writing notes in the car,

a little file as things were coming to my head as I'm driving. That's the kind of planning I did

going into it. And I was very sloppy about

job descriptions and roles and lines of authority. I was, I was just inviting people into our

staff meetings and in calling them to mission and seeking that I was casting vision and hoping

they would get inspired to serve God. And so the result is there was a lot of blurred lines of who's responsible for what.

A lot of assumptions.

There was a lot of conflicts going on.

A lot of waste of time and energy and gifts of God's resources.

There was some hurt.
