Staff meetings, like it or not, are a critical building block for an emotionally healthy church culture.

Over the years, I have learned that staff meetings are a powerful opportunity to bring encouragement, clarify roles, and learn how to be with Jesus together. There are books written about how to have a productive or efficient staff meeting, but in today’s podcast, I take a different approach. I’ve identified 5 ways to cultivate emotional health in your regular meetings.

0:09.8	and our topic today is five distinctives of an emotionally healthy staff meeting. Five
0:18.6	distinctives of an emotionally healthy team meeting or staff meeting.
0:22.9	Now, my history with running staff or team meetings is not very good in the beginning.
0:27.7	I just wanted to preach, I wanted to teach, I wanted to cast a vision, and recruit people
0:32.5	for a mission for God.
0:34.2	And so in my early days, I really had a very compartmentalized spirituality.
0:38.3	Preaching and teaching, that was holy on God's heart.
0:43.3	But leading a staff meeting and all that kind of thinking that needed to go into an agenda
0:47.3	and all the stuff around it, to me it was secondary.
0:50.3	It wasn't quite as holy.
0:53.3	I would show up onto these staff meetings that I was leading
0:56.2	and I'd actually think about it driving to the church. And I'd be writing notes in the car,
1:02.7	a little file as things were coming to my head as I'm driving. That's the kind of planning I did
1:08.4	going into it. And I was very sloppy about
1:11.4	job descriptions and roles and lines of authority. I was, I was just inviting people into our
1:18.0	staff meetings and in calling them to mission and seeking that I was casting vision and hoping
1:23.3	they would get inspired to serve God. And so the result is there was a lot of blurred lines of who's responsible for what.
1:29.6	A lot of assumptions.
1:30.6	There was a lot of conflicts going on.
1:33.3	A lot of waste of time and energy and gifts of God's resources.
1:38.3	There was some hurt.
