Well, welcome to ereligiosophy, this is our fifth podcast. What we're going to try to do once a month is... is cast about in the news and find stories that are interesting to

Yeah and in fact what brought this about was Charlie sending me a link saying you really have to see what Glenn Beck's up to again.

And once I watched it, I just kind of laughed and said okay we've really got to

talk about this on the story but first on the shopping block I would actually like to

hit what the Pope is doing the Pope is actually pushing for pharmacists to be able to use their conscientious judgment

to tell people of the moral implications of using contraceptives and the day after pill.

So basically in a nutshell, Pope Benedict the 16th said Monday, if pharmacists have the right to use conscientious objection to

avoid dispensing emergency contraception or euthanasia drugs and told them they should

also inform patients the ethical implications of using such drugs.

Now you as a doctor I'm sure this hits right down in the heart of things.

Well you know, our former Governor Levitt, who's now and who was, I guess under Bush in charge and dear God I hope he's not anymore in charge of

what the health department I think he was trying to push forth a law very similar for doctors and this is the whole thing is to protect the conscience of doctors so that if doctors object to

abortion for example then they don't have to tell the patient about abortion.

They don't have to give them that option when the patient comes in seeking a resolution to whatever health problem they're having.

Now the interesting thing is, is Charlie told me about this,

and the first thing that popped into my head is,

well, which religion exactly are we going to be following

with our ethical solutions?

What if you're Jehovah's Witness?

I mean, they don't think about this stuff, right?
