I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Wednesday, February 8th, 2020. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers.

The search is finally over. The 49ers have a new defensive coordinator and thus the first big domino of the

2023 offseason has fallen. According to Tom Pellisero and Ian Rappaport, the Niners are

hiring former Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilkes to take over control of the defense.

Wilkes is known from running a 4 four three base system, which is what the

49ers had in place under Robert Sala and Amico Ryan's. That may have been a big selling point.

Remember, this is what Kyle Shanahan said when asked about filling the decoordinator position

earlier in the offseason. I love our defense of staff. I love our defense. Trying to get

something where we don't have to turn much over.
